Why I Embrace Authenticity: My Decision to Forego Image Editing and Filters in my Beauty Services

In today's world of perfectly curated social media feeds and flawless images, it's refreshing to take a step back and appreciate authenticity. As a beauty services provider, I've made a conscious choice to embrace natural beauty and forego the customary practice of heavy image editing and filters. Let me share with you the reasons behind my decision.

Personal Story:

In the early stages of my career, social media didn't exist and editing images was done by professional photographers. As social media grew and image filters went from "doing it for fun" to "normal", I found myself spending countless hours trying to select the perfect photo of each new service. I avoided images displaying any imperfection in my work. This presented an unrealistic portrayal of beauty and as time went on, I began to realize that the beauty industry has a responsibility to promote authenticity and self-acceptance.

I made a conscious shift in my approach, deciding to display real, unedited beauty in my work. I chose to avoid airbrushing any imperfections or using any filters. Clients were accustomed to seeing flawless images on social media and in marketing materials. Instead of following suit, I opted to celebrate the uniqueness and individuality of each person I worked with and being authentic in the images I show providing realistic expectations with the services I provide.

The Impact of Authenticity:

Choosing authenticity over perfection has had a profound impact on my clients and the beauty services I provide. Clients feel empowered and confident seeing real representations of beauty. They no longer feel pressured to live up to unattainable standards set by edited images. Authenticity fosters a sense of acceptance and self-love, which are essential components of true beauty.

In a world saturated with filtered images and unrealistic beauty standards, I am proud to stand by my decision to embrace authenticity in my work. It is a small yet significant step towards reshaping the beauty industry's narrative and promoting self-acceptance.

In a society that often prioritizes perfection, I believe that choosing authenticity is a powerful form of self-expression. By celebrating natural beauty and forgoing image editing and filters, I can help my clients love and appreciate who they see in the mirror by being authentic, diverse, and imperfect and that is something worth celebrating.
